What is emPower Fitness by Patrick…it’s about empowering you to achieve a healthy lifestyle through exercise. Your commitment combined with my guidance creates a collaborative and successful training program; one customized to embrace your current level of fitness and then progress you towards meeting your fitness goals. The American Council on Exercise (ACE), through which I obtained my personal training certification, strongly promotes specific and measurable goals. This is not just about achieving a certain weight or body fat percentage, it is about being able to perform normal activities of daily living. This includes achieving improved muscle functionality and cardiorespiratory endurance (stamina). In addition to following the ACE principles of effective goal setting, I also specialize in corrective exercise, receiving my education through The BioMechanics Method™. Corrective exercise addresses imbalances in muscle usage, possibly due to body posture habits, past muscle injury or lack of physical activity; and promotes building proper body alignment through stretching and strengthening techniques, and in a safe progressive manner.

Exercise Progression

  • Body Alignment and Function

A effective exercise program begins with understanding the body’s alignment and ability to perform normal activities of daily living. Posture, balance, flexibility and mobility will be evaluated and addressed in the initial stage of training, leading to a safe and successful progression in your fitness program.

  • Muscle Tension and Flexibility

Muscle tension can be a deterrent to exercising, and is often due to tightness of the surrounding connective tissue (fascia). Fascia guides the line of movement for muscle groups, and if tight, can become a source of pain. Myofascial Release techniques included in your fitness program work to relieve the tension.

  • Muscle Stretching and Equalibrium

Over time, your muscle will adjust to human habits, such as hunched posture due to sitting at a computer, or favoring imbalances due to a past injury, or general under/over usage of a muscle group. Targeted stretching exercises will assist in correcting muscle usage imbalance.

  • Muscle Strengthening and Resistance

The progression to muscle strengthening, toning and building, opens the door to a wide variety of exercise tools. Previous advances made in your fitness program will be enhanced by utilizing resistance equipment to increase strength and stamina, yet remain appropriate for your goals.
